The Sterile Storage Attendant/Autoclave Operator must be familiar with standard OR procedures and OR setup and understand standard procedures for cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of instruments and equipment. He/she must safely and properly operate sterilizer machines and coordinate with the Facilities Director for equipment maintenance and repair. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for keeping the sterilization equipment clean and functioning properly. Daily care and cleaning of the sterilizer. Loading and unloading of the sterilizers, setting up the articles at the proper place, to and from the clean work area to the sterile storage area. Responsible for complete sterility of equipment/instruments to the entire hospital (Emergency Room, Ward, Clinics, etc.) Maintenance of complete records of sterilized material and any other type of documentation deemed necessary for the benefit of the department. Check and monitor that all equipment in the operating rooms is working and functioning well. Ensure that surgical instruments and supplies are properly cleaned, decontaminated, and packed. Ensure instruments are sterile and ready for use when required. Maintaining the cleanliness and dusting of sterile rooms and sterilization areas. Prepare the OR for surgery. Provide technical or other assistance to the OR team as needed. Assist in the selection of surgical instruments by reviewing the surgeon’s preference list and conferring with the nurse on duty. Ensure that infection prevention and control practices are strictly followed. Provide oversight and control to the inventory of implants, instruments, and equipment in accordance with standard procedures. Promptly report all mechanical issues, shortages, etc. to the Facilities Director. Assist in the transfer/transport of a patient from the OR table to the stretcher, recovery room, and ward as necessary. OTHER DUTIES Uphold the highest standards of quality and efficiency in line with hospital quality programs (e.g. Safecare, DOH, etc.) requirements. Ensure a safe and secure work environment by strictly adhering to infection prevention and control protocols such as but not limited to handwashing, wearing of PPE, etc. Commit to sustainable and eco-friendly work practices by minimizing waste, optimizing resource usage, and actively participating in initiatives that promote environmental stewardship. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Minimum Education Required: Any Vocational Course. License/Certificate Required: Formal Training on Handling and Operating Sterilizing equipment, NC II in CSSD/NC II in Health Care Services preferred Minimum Experience Required: At least 6 months to 1-year Hospital work experience Required KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Strong verbal and written communication skills Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of nursing Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment Ability to handle multiple tasks, establish priorities and work independently Ability to handle confidential matters properly by maintaining patient and caregiver confidentiality Powered by JazzHR
